Dental Specialists Oral Surgery

Oral surgery deals with treatments of birth defects, removal of infected and extremely broken down down teeth and injuries to the facial bones , teeth and surrounding structures under anesthesia.

The treatment options varies according to the condition of the patient. The most common surgical procedure performed is removal of tooth due to infection, fracture of teeth or impaction of wisdom teeth.

Wisdom teeth are the last molars present on each side of jaw, they usually erupt between ages 17 and 25. They are the third molars, and ancient humans used wisdom teeth to grind up hard foods that were difficult to digest.

Impacted wisdom teeth are simply the teeth which are blocked from growing properly

When should you get your wisdom teeth removed?

There is no right age for wisdom tooth removal. Some people get their wisdom teeth at a young age, while some others get them in adulthood. But if you need to remove wisdom teeth, it would be better to take them out at young age because the healing process would be faster. However, if you’re in your 40s with all your wisdom teeth and they cause no oral health complications, taking them out is not necessary.

Is Wisdom Tooth Removal Painful?

Wisdom teeth removal is usually done under anesthesia in dental office. However, for a day or two after a wisdom tooth removal can be uncomfortable. Mild Swelling and limited mouth opening can last anywhere between 1 and 4 days. A typical recovery period is dependent upon how impacted the incoming wisdom teeth are, how large the teeth are, and how deep they are when they are extracted.

If you’re experiencing pain in the very back of your mouth, then it may be time to evaluate how your wisdom teeth are growing.
