Dental Implants
A dental implant is the closest modern dentistry can come to replacing a natural tooth — in both function and feel. A titanium implant is placed into the jawbone where it integrates with the bone over 3–6 months, providing a stable, permanent foundation for a crown, bridge, or full arch restoration. She completed her BDS from Rajah Muthiah Dental College, Annamalai University in 1997 and her MDS in Prosthodontics and Implantology from Dr. MGR Medical University in 2000.
She is a Member of the International Congress of Oral Implantology (MICOI, USA) and a member of the European Society of Cosmetic Dentistry since 2016 — international credentials that reflect her commitment to staying at the forefront of the specialty.
Dr. Lakshmi is the author of the Preclinical Manual of Prosthodontics (Elsevier), now in its third edition, read by over 10,000 dental students annually across India. Her research publications include work in the Journal of Conservative Dentistry (2006) and the Journal of Indian Prosthodontic Society (2005).

The Prosthodontic Treatment Process at RCF
Your first appointment involves a thorough clinical examination, digital X-rays, and where needed, a CBCT (cone beam CT) scan that provides a three-dimensional view of your bone structure, nerve pathways, and tooth positions. This level of assessment is the foundation of accurate treatment planning.
Dr. Lakshmi presents a detailed treatment plan that explains what is recommended, why, what the alternatives are, what the procedure involves, how long it takes, and what the expected outcome is. For complex cases involving multiple specialists, the full team reviews the plan together before treatment begins.
In some cases, preparatory treatment is needed before prosthodontic restoration — root canal treatment on a tooth receiving a crown, gum treatment before implant placement, or bone grafting where bone volume is insufficient for implants. This preparatory phase ensures the final restoration is placed on a healthy, stable foundation.
Impressions or digital scans are taken and sent to our dental laboratory. For crowns and bridges, a temporary restoration protects the tooth during fabrication. The final prosthesis is checked for fit, occlusion (bite), and aesthetics before permanent placement.
All prosthodontic restorations at RCF are reviewed at scheduled intervals to ensure the bite is stable, the prosthesis is functioning correctly, and the surrounding tissue is healthy. For international patients, we provide written aftercare instructions and are available for remote consultation if concerns arise after you return home.
